He’s an asshole anyway. It’s not like he loves me or I love him. We were just fucking, good fucking, but we weren’t in a real relationship. It was probably never going to be a real relationship anyway, because his big ass is scared of my brothers. So that makes him a chicken shit nigga. A chicken shit nigga with good dick is still a chicken shit nigga…with good dick.

I was sitting in the back of one of Leland’s rented SUVs, on my way to the airport so I could follow my brother and employer to his next game. Tree was driving me, and Tree was nice and respectful, but he wasn’t Good Dick Tommy. The same Good Dick Tommy who left my condo and didn’t look back, had barely spoken to me in a week although we were traveling together as a part of the same entourage. And yes, he’d switched himself out with Tree again as my protector.

Indecisive ass.

I didn’t need that vacillation in my life anyway!

And yeah, I know I put him out, so I essentially caused this break-up, if you can call it that, but shit, did he have to just…go along with it?

“Now you sound crazy. What did you want him to do? Stay there after you told him to leave?” myself asked.

And I told myself, “I wanted him to fight for me!”

“Fight who? You?”

I blew out a loud breath, now frustrated with this internal conversation and angry that myself was right. I did sound crazy. Hell, maybe I was crazy, but who could blame me with my track record in the love department?

Love?

Was that what this was? Did I love Tomás Kirby? And if I did, did he love me back?

At that moment, as Tree glanced at me quizzically in the rearview mirror, because I was probably wearing my jumbled emotions on my face, I realized I wanted that more than anything. I wanted Tommy to love me, because I loved him. It was too soon, it didn’t make sense, but I loved him.

I really did.
